The Tavern Brewery & Irish Pub

After a lot of waiting and anticipation, Lake City finally has an Irish Pub!

Located right next to Marion St. Brew house and sharing a backyard space with Halpatter Brewing Co., sits a newly renovated-from-top-to-bottom Irish watering hole, where you can get small batch beers, spot-on classic Irish fare, and play pool with your friends as you watch the game. There are two bars, one inside and one outside, and you can get anything from a completely opaque stout to The Quiet Man Irish whiskey neat (and may I strongly suggest this whiskey, as it’s one of the smoothest I’ve ever tasted).

It’s hard to say what’s best as far as food goes, because everything I’ve tasted has been excellent! I know fries are a weird place to start, as unassuming as the side item can be. But if you love waffle fries- these shoot Chick fil A’s waffle fries out of the water. They are so crispy on the outside, and perfectly soft on the inside; dip them in ranch and you won’t be able to stop until the basket is gone.

Their Reuben is actually one of the best Reuben’s I’ve ever had, period, with in-house corned beef that’s thickly cut and just the right amount of sauerkraut. I think what wins it for me with this particular sandwich is that it’s not a soggy disaster. It’s not dry, but it’s also not soaking your hands either; it’s just right! This sandwich comes with waffle fries OR tots. There’s just something extra amazing about a place that offers tater tots, am I right?

The bangers and mash is equally delicious, if you’re wanting sausage and a fried egg (which, let’s be honest: is there ever a time when you don’t want those two things?) You can also chow down on fish and chips, soft pretzels with beer cheese, or just go all in and have beer cheese soup!
