Opus Coffee

Gainesville – Coffee – Sweet Treats

July 2020

Our REview

POpus coffee, in Gainesville Florida, offers a compelling new take on coffee. Featuring classic staples and new creations alike, Opus is very likely to have something just for you.

I usually can’t go without a trip to opus when I find myself in Gainesville. My go to is usually whatever new concoution they have made, featuring nitro cold brew. Their nitro brew is velvety and smooth; they obviously have succeeded in what is becoming a popular, well crafted beverage these days. One of my favorite drinks they make is the Panama Go. Rich nitro, paired with pineapple juice and coconut cream, and finished off with a slice of pineapple and a rim of salt. It was the perfect summer treat, a cultural reset for my knowledge of the limits of where a coffee beverage could go. Suddenly, I found myself on the beach, with the salty waves crashing against my feet, and the Opus signature creation finding its way into my hands. Their plain iced coffee is consistently good, ready to be paired with many of the different syrups they offer, my personal favorite is the lavender syrup! The iced mocha is a rich treat, with a great match of chocolate and coffee, finished off with a smooth aftertaste.

They have a menu full of orders of tea, signature takes on cold brew creations, and of course, the classic lattes, Americanos, and beyond. At some locations, Opus features baked goods from Amanda’s traditional bakeshop; you’ll find treats of all assortments, all a delicious way to compliment your coffee. They recently collaborated with local ice creamery Sweet Dreams, to make a coffee infused ice cream, using opus beans. They offer popular dairy alternatives, such as almond milk and the ever so popular oatmilk, along with more options to suit your fancy.

I have been to two out of the seven locations for Opus coffee, five of those being in local hospitals. While both had a great environment, my favorite was the airstream.

The Opus airstream is a converted airstream caravan. It resides in the 4th avenue food park, a hub for a creative take on eatery, and gathering. The airstream has a vintage, retro vibe, set beside a vibrant outdoor space for seating. You can sit in a small sitting area inside the airstream itself, where you can also find merchandise and bags of coffee for purchase. There is a small herb garden beside where the airstream is parked, easily accessible for a barista to top off your drink with a fresh sprig of rosemary. If you are lucky enough, you might find pepperoni, resident cat and social media representative, lounging inside the airstream. I myself have not been one of the lucky few to have met Pepperoni, and I mourn that fact daily. Oh, to be a popular, yet elusive cat living in a converted airstream coffee shop.

In my overall review, Opus Coffee is innovative in their new ideas and fresh takes of the classics of the coffee world. They can pride themselves on constancy, everytime I go, I find myself enjoying whatever brew finds its way into my hands. Their atmosphere is excellent, and plays a large factor in why I enjoy coming back. I hope you find the same pleasant, exciting experience I do when having a cup of Opus Coffee.
